- How Often to Clean an Instant Pot
An instant pot, in case you didn’t know, is a brand of pressure cookers. It has an electric base that controls heating and cooking times. They come with different sizes so you can fit the size you need for your usage.
You might be wondering is Instant Pot dishwasher safe? Instant pots are dishwasher safe which makes them easy to clean when done using it.
Cleaning the Steel Inner Pot
As soon as the cooking time is done, take out the inner pot from the Instant Pot base and wash it. You can hand-wash or clean it with a dishwasher.
If you are planning to clean the inner pot with a dishwasher, place it on top of the rack, so that it doesn’t have any direct contact with dishes. There is a possibility of scratching or even damage if it comes in contact with other utensils while being washed.
Cleaning the Lid
If you opt to hand-wash the lid, just wipe it with a dry cloth. Make sure that the sealing ring is inserted before cleaning, so that food doesn’t stick inside where the gasket is located.
All components of the Instant Pot are dishwasher safe. However, it is recommended to wash them by hand for better cleaning.
Instant pot can be washed in a dishwasher even though all parts may not fit perfectly in the machine. Do make sure that any part of your instant pot doesn’t touch or hit another utensil while washing or it may get scratched. There are different models of Instant pots that come with different features and sizes. You can easily find the one that meets your cooking needs.
Cleaning the Sealing Ring
If you are planning to clean it by hand, then using a soft sponge ensures that the sealing ring will last longer. This is because harsh sponges may not only destroy the gasket but can also damage its surface which reduces its effectiveness.
To ensure good hygiene, make sure to wash your hands before removing the sealing ring from Instant Pot.
Cleaning the Condensation Collector
To remove the condensation collector, you can either use your thumb to push down and turn it counter-clockwise or simply lift and pull out.
You can remove the condensation collector in a dishwasher. Just make sure that it is not closed tight in the machine and allow some space for water to flow inside. You may also hand wash the condensation collector with a cloth. Make sure to clean it from time to time by giving it a light scrub from the sides.
To ensure that your device is completely dry, allow it to sit in open air for some time before storing or closing.
Cleaning the Base
The base is made of stainless steel so it’s very easy to wash. Just wipe it using a dry cloth or sponge. The inner pot can be washed either by hand or with the dishwasher. However, make sure not to immerse the entire unit in water just to clean the bottom part since that may cause damage to the whole device.
You may also use a stainless-steel cleaner once in a while to ensure that your device stays shiny from outside. If you notice that the inner pot is no longer heating properly, then you can clean it completely by placing 4 tablespoons of plain white vinegar and run it through a cycle on high heat without any food inside. Make sure not to run it through a whole cycle with vinegar inside since that may damage your device.
In case you have an instant pot dishwasher safe, then cleaning the unit is very easy. You can, however, clean it by hand if preferred and follow the steps given above which ensure a thorough clean for your kitchen helper. If you take care of your device, then it will serve you for a long time without any issues whatsoever.
How Often to Clean an Instant Pot
Depending on how often you use your Instant Pot, it’s a good idea to clean it after every 4-5 uses. That means that you should be cleaning the lid, sealing ring, anti-block shield, and pot itself after removing any food residue. For general maintenance of the device, you can wipe down its exterior with some warm water.
It is always good to clean your Instant Pot after every use, but if you are short on time then at least clean it once or twice a month.
